So you’re walking down the same old avenue,
Hoping that this life will bring you something new
But the same old lovers, always wanting more
Ignore your heart of scattered roses on the floor.

Yet you keep on wishing, your desires uncut
Even when you’re rundown and caught in this rut
‘Cause you’re the biggest dreamer in this land,
But all the love you’ve had is second hand.

You can’t take much more; you’ll lose your nerve
You strive to find the love that you deserve
Waiting to see if he walks through the door,
Once he sees your scattered roses on the floor.

‘Cause you need someone like that to turn you around,
Or you’ll be stuck on this endless merry-go-round
One to give you more than just hand-me-down,
And lift you up to the sky in your ballroom gown.

Until then, you remain in this darkness interceding
Your fractured heart continually bleeding,
Slashed by the world, cold and loveless like before
Pricked by the thorns of the roses on your floor.

You know that you can’t make it on your own
Someday you won’t have to be alone,
‘Cause someone has to care, and soon he will come
To offer devotion that will never go numb.

So you’re lying awake, still dreaming of the day,
When your true love will come and whisk you away
In loneliness you won’t have to wait anymore
Amidst the scattered roses on the floor.
