DADDY DON'T GO.........

When I was a little girl
You'd bounce me on your knee
You'd tell me I was pretty
And I always tried to please

When I had a bad day
It was you I'd go running to
You'd tell me it would be alright
...I believed in you

I remember, I was fourteen
The first time you left
All your clothes in the closet were gone
I couldn't catch my breath

I fell to my knees and cried
I cried, "Daddy, don't go!
I've been loving you all my life
You're my hero, don't you know?
If I were better, would you stay?
Please, Daddy, don't go."

When I was in high school
We talked alot on the phone
You'd say you were proud of me
That I'd never be alone.

Through those years when you were gone
I shed many a tear
All the things you were missing
I just wanted you near.

I remember I was all grown up
The next time you went away
You'd be gone for a few years
You had a debt to pay.

I fell to my knees and cried.
I cried, "Daddy, don't go!
I've been loving you all my life
You're my hero, don't you know?
If you were better, could you stay?
Please, Daddy, don't go."

While you were gone, I got married
On your birthday - no accident
I wish you'd have walked me down the aisle
But it was with Mom I went.

While you were gone, I had a son
And now I bounce him on my knee
I tell him that he's handsome
And it's me he tries to please.

Now you're home, so close to me
We were making up for lost time
But the doctor says you're not doing well
And I hold your hand in mine.

I sit by your bed and cry
I cry, "Daddy, don't go!
You've been leaving me all my life
You're my hero, don't you know?
I can't stand to lose you,
Please, Daddy, don't go."
