Days when all was bright
Children played
And women sung in joy
Days of ignorance
And happiness
No conception of days ahead

Days ahead
Filled with words like blitzkreig
And WAR
Forced from happy homes
And gathered in confusion
Already decaying
Of minds
Of bodies
Of faith
It all had begun
And that was only the beginning

More days ahead
Filled with words like Camps
And Auschwitz
When all joy was forgotten
And faith began to waiver
Just as the smoke from the chimneys
Waivered in the breeve
And then the wind picked up
And those who were not burned
Were swept away into labor till death

Darker days ahead
Filled with words like survival
And starvation
Shaved
And sprayed
As vermin
Then beaten
And starved
Marched from bunker to work
From work to death
Death from work
Gatherings of defeat
Lined up in the snow
Freezing but counting
Then hangings
And starvation
Always the starvation
Day after day
Faith lost
Suffering prevails
Murder for food
One for one
All for none

Brighter days ahead
Filled with words like liberation
And survivor
With food
And comfort
Faithless
All alone
Lone survivor
Just wanted to die
