This is an adaptation of Rudyard Kiplings "White Man's
Burden" done for my World History class
Take up America’s burden--
Send forth your children bred
Bind their fate to others
To save instead of dread
To guard with life and limb
Those we’d call our friends
Your new found renegade
Half-ally and half-foe
Take up America’s burden--
In patience do abide
To end the threat of terror
And check the sound of gripe
By truth and honesty
A million times held true
To have the others favor
And work another dare
Take up America’s burden--
Fight the wars of peace
Fill the mouth of Famine
And bid the sickness cease
And when success is nearest
The process almost complete
Watch the evil and the greed
Make those plans incomplete
Take up America’s burden--
No rulers shall we have
Divide the power fairly
Hear all those peoples say
And mark their ground in writing
For no one to ever change
And let your hand be known
By the way they’ll ever live
Take up America’s burden--
And gain its new rewards
The affection of those you better
And the hate of those you bar
Humor the cries of others
Do the best you can
Teach their youth and children
And friendship you will have
Take up America’s burden--
No less shall you stand for
Call loud and true on freedom
No need for any more war
And let all you say and do
Be in everyone’s favor
For everyday you struggle
The world will watch you through
Take up America’s burden--
The days of youth have passed
Now adulthood we do face
Have way with days of old
Now is the time to act
And control yourself
Through all those lonely years
For the world to judge you fair
