My Mockingbird

Where are you, my mockingbird?
So sweet within the wind
You’re alone but so innocent
And you’re the sweetest sin

You’re so pretty by yourself
Little bird, you won’t be touched
Your song so young and so sincere
Dear, you show your grace so much

It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird
For dear bird, you do no wrong
Are you happy being loved?
And for just how long?

You’re perched upon my window
A picture of God’s perfection
But what is under that layer?
What’s your true reflection?

My bird, what are you thinking?
Does being observed make you strong?
Or, my pretty mockingbird
Has it robbed you all along?
