Death Of A Friend

I'm lying here
curled in a ball.
I'm staring at
these bleached white walls.
And I'm wondering
how I got this way.
Wondering what
made me crazy.
Then I remember
why I'm here.
My muscles tense up
as the nurse draws near.
And as she comes closer
my face turns pale.
And I wait to see
if your situation prevailed.
The nurse sits down
with tears in her eyes.
And tries to explain
that you died.
I shout a curse
shriek in pain.
I know I'll never
see you again.
As I break down
in disbelief.
I begin to cry
endless tears of grief.
I feel so cold. . .
I lay down on the floor
the nurse walks away
and slowly shuts the door.
