Losing the Things You Never Knew You Always Had

Lonely summer nights under the stars
midnight walks lit by soft glowing street lights
the sound of shoes falling on wet concrete
watching from my window
waiting
anxious
until you finally approach my house
silhoutted by the newly rising sun

... this was our time

The bright glow of a busy city
the rush of people and speeding cars
electricty
static
excitement
wanting to be a part of this beautiful chaos
longing to lose yourself in all that you see
knowing no other place could ever be this perfect

... this was my home

Feeling my heart explode in my chest
seeing the tears well up in your eyes
and hearing the pleas escape your lips
overwhelming regret
seeing the lights one final time
watching all I've ever loved fade away
unsure when I would ever see it all again

... this was my loss

Crying myself to sleep
feeling lost and alone in this unfamiliar place
begging for any way out
failing to accept
failing to adapt
wanting nothing more than for the sun to rise
to wake me from this nightmare I've found myself in
nothing feels right without you

... this is my life
