Just Being A Friend

Release, she says
That's all it is
Escaping reality, a world of clarity
Where nothing matters
But the knife in her hand
And what's left on her sleeve
It's no big deal, she says to me
I know inside she's crying for help
But no one understands
What she needs most is a friend
I try to help her through it
try to make everything OK
I think she knows I try
But when the night is over
I feel so overwhelmed
But in the end I know I've helped her
Just being there when no one would
Just talking to her for hours on end
Just being a friend
