I sit here and think of what to write
Of all the influences that occurred throughout my life
But I first have to define what influence means
Before I can get started on the in-betweens

Influence to me means more than one thing
Such as helping somebody change something
Or persuading someone to do what you want
I know that sounds rather blunt

According to the dictionary influence means
“To affect or alter by intangible means”
And “to have an effect on the development of”
Two great definitions from Webster, who’s up above

Now that I know what influence is
I can get started on all of this
Everybody has to have been influenced once
Or influenced someone during the months

I’ve been influenced each and everyday
There are people who influence me on what I think and say
There have been times when I have lost sight
And someone would come along and show me the light

I’ve been told that I influenced a friend
I guess I helped her to comprehend
I helped her become part of who she is
I’m glad I could be part of this

As I bring this poem to a close
I want you to think of some questions, that I chose
What does influence mean to you?
And do you remember a time when you were influenced too?
