She sat engorssed in a novel
As the real world lost importance
traveled into a different place
Filled with serene tranquility
Could no longer hear the screams
No longer see the bruises
That tainted her life and soul
Could no longer hear the cries
No longer see the blood
That made her heart swell
A merciful passage to paradise
She’s swimming in the clearest ocean
And suddenly brought back to reality
Struck and drowning in a pool of blood
She runs and hides with book in hand
Searching for escape again
