Corruption

I remember the corruption and the decay
And all the innocence taken away
Stripped from such a young child at such a young age
And now her life’s story has turned to a new page
And that joyous young child can no longer stay

The twinkle in her eyes always gleamed so bright
But they didn’t seem as bright after that one night
And the happiness it brought seemed to drift away
I remember the corruption and the decay

Her precious presence followed her from place to place
But now purity is nothing much but lace
Lace so fragile and thin, almost not even there
Watching the world steal it away, I cannot bear
And now the impurities can’t be replaced
I remember the corruption and the decay
