Old Temple

It lays forgotten among the wisteria.
The vines of life have long since covered the entrance,
Scents of new flowers intertwine with aromas of stale incense.
Do the butterflies know what is hidden beneath their meal of nectar?
I think the river knows.
He has been around for many, many moons.
The moss holds secrets of a lost past,
Sakura roots break up the ancient pathways,
Lotuses overrun the koi ponds,
Once proud pillars lay disheveled about the landscape.

Push past the vines and through the rubble.
The halls are vacant,
But the sense of what the temple once was still remains.
A world beyond the modern,
A step back in times past,
A time when technology did not exist,
A time of secrecy, of mystery,
Part of the past and part of the present.
What a sight to be seen!
