Perfection- A Tribute To My Friends

In a society that demands perfection
There is none.
No perfect person, act, or machine;
Not one perfect trait in any one of us.

But there is one thing that means more than perfection
And that means more than any skill or action ever known.
Time and time again
We see in movies and shows,
A person sacrificing themself for a friend,
A loved one.
To friendship there is a truth.
An honesty.
The heart of a lion and the caring of a mother
May be more than needed,
But when asked for
Are always readily available for a friend.
Society has always sought perfection
Knowing that there is no such thing.

Or is there some trait
That measures up?
The American way is to accept no less
Than the absolute best.
Good does not cut it
Only perfection.
Too often we look
For more than we deserve.

I challenge any one person to ask themselves
What they think perfection is.
Is it not making mistakes?
Is it unfathomable accuracy?
Is that truly perfection,
No errors whatsoever?
Or does perfection
Have a greater meaning?

I have asked myself all these questions
And found my own answers.
I’ve seen a planet of sinners, murderers,
Rapists, psychopaths, and other convicts.
A non-perfect earth,
Soiled hands and dirtied waters.
However I am not discouraged
I am not afraid.
Though I have not found perfection here,
Through all the imperfections.

Times of friendship
Forever defeat perfection.
These times
Come from the heart and soul.
Not from the mind
Or by any actions taken.

Perfection hides in the eyes
Of friendship.
True friendship does not mean
Never making a mistake.
True friendship is forgiveness
And learning.
One to forgive the mistake
And one to learn from it.

Friendship holds no grudges
No pain, no agony, no despair.
Friendship takes only the happiness
And shuts out the darkness.
It lights up the darkest hearts
And abolishes negativity.
Friendship hides behind deceit and hurt
But distinguishing it from those requires little time.

What can perfection learn from friendship?
When has perfection ever blocked out the dark?
When has perfection brought happiness?
Now what is your definition of perfection?

Free from boundaries
Friendship is not contained.
It is held together by caring
And the unconscious mindfulness of heart and soul.
Perfection is bound
By possible error and mistake.
Friendship does not end due to minor error
Perfection ends at the slightest screw-up.

It may be true that not all friends show this much care.
It may also be true that one hasn’t checked up on their friends lately.
What would you consider to be a friend?
Is a friend one that lies to you face?
One that steals from you or your family?
A friend has to care.
No if’s and’s or but’s about it,
A friend cares more than anyone you could ever find.
What do you give to and ask for from your friendships?
Never give less than what you ask.

A friend is always there when you need them most.
They’re always there for comfort.
Reliable, dependable, and trustworthy
A friend is made up of so many things.
There are the failed friendships
That fall short by far,
Those are the friendships
Not based in the heart.
But in things other than that
Many different reasons people do not like to admit.

Over the years friendships can drift apart,
Depending upon the effort.
True friends will never be separated
No matter what the circumstances.
True friendships withstand the tests of time
And distance.
When has perfection withstood time and distance?
Never.

In a society that demands perfection
There is none.
No perfect person, act, or machine;
Not one perfect trait in any one of us.
But who needs perfection?
Perfection is overrated.
Perfection can fall apart at any given moment.
A true friendship will never fail.

Real friendship can never be substituted
There is nothing like it.
No perfection has ever achieved happiness,
No perfection has ever given comfort.
All it is is a state of mind
A mere bragging right.
Friendship gives you happiness and comfort
And so much more, more than perfection can give.
But society has always sought perfection
Knowing that there is no such thing.

In a society that demands perfection
Who needs it?
No perfect person, act, or machine;
Not one perfect trait in any one of us.
But all you need is a caring friend,
Or maybe many.
Life can be so much easier
This is my personal testimony
I’ve known
I’ve seen
I’ve learned
I’VE FELT.
