No matter how very hard
These children seem to try,
They can’t spread their wings
And learn just how to fly.
All the energy in the world
Would not make them grow wings,
And no one could coax them off their feet
With all the pretty things.
Winds just cannot move
These little souls along,
And their hearts can’t beat
An airy, flighty song.
Wills of iron won’t hollow
Their tender bones to soar,
And always screaming at them
Does no true good anymore.
No friend or foe’s example
Could lead them to brave these heights,
For with children’s wisdom, they know
That no one would save their flight.
