JUST TO HAVE YOU

I had only to look behind me
to see the tracks in the sand
your feet made
as I dragged you along
in this relationship
and still I refused to let
go your hand
refused to let you walk alone
insisting you walk into the
sunset with me
and when you couldn't continue
any further
I carried you inside my heart
the unwilling captive
quietly fighting to be free
slipping away so silently
that even your shadow was left
unaware
I can't go on for the both of us
perpetrating a lie
refusing to pull the plank
out of both eyes
hoping the tide will wash
away your SOS
refusing to see you waving goodbye
just to have you with me
