Operation Freedom
We called to say goodbye,
And that we’d see each other soon.
I was dreading that very moment
Since late last afternoon.
Even though it came with warning,
I could not help but dwell,
“How I will feel when I awake?”
But only time will tell.
It feels as though you took with you,
A big part of my heart
It wouldn’t quite be so tough
If we weren’t so far apart.
I remember looking through the glass
Up high towards the moon
And asking God to keep you safe
And to bring you home real soon.
I hear some ask the question…What are we fighting for?
The answer’s very obvious, though some do find it odd,
We simply want to live in peace
One Nation Under God.
You must be gone to keep us safe
Though I admit, it’s hard to say
Just so I can tell my child
That she is safe to play.
You dedicate your heart and soul
To doing what you do
For volunteering for it all-
To you , Our thanks are due.
Since wars protect our freedoms,
The ones we know as “laws”
I feel I must contribute
To this very worthy cause
For my part I will give
Support and prayers to you
After all you are protecting
The Red, White and the Blue.
For all the things you do for us
And all that you endure,
I must again say thank you
For your loyalty so pure
Now, I find you’re coming home
To where you know and love
My praise and thanks is also due,
To the man from up above
I wish for you to tell
All those who serve with you
That some of us, do respect
The hell that you go through.
