Unexpected Motherhood

Little child fully grown
Now has a baby of her own
Sour 16 instead of sweet
Could hardly stay on her feet

Child, the world does pity you
But a blind eye it casts
Unexpected pregnancy
Motherhood comes too fast

Little child fully grown
Now 20 years and far from home
Struggling with the fate she’s met
Many mistakes, much to regret

Thinking now and thinking back
Wondering how she got off track
Knowing that she wanted it
Or at least she thought she did

Little child fully grown
Finds it hard to be alone
Casts all away she’s ever known
For dangerous detours and roads unknown

Little child fully grown
Now has a child of her own
The child of which is torn in two
By her struggling mother who
She loves and hates
And constantly debates
Why her mother is as so

Mother who never had the support
Who took a chance and came up short
Now has a child who
She’s tried to care for
But can hardly be there for

Little child fully grown
Now has a child of her own
A child who the same fate meets…

The cycle repeats
