Let me tell you a little story
You haven’t heard it yet, it’s about a girl’s glory.
It’s about Stephanie, my dearest friend
Trying to keep her head up once more again.
This is the story of her life
And what she has to put up with day and night.
First of all she’s poor, so she can’t afford a lot
She lives in a filthy trailer that her mom bought.
He parents are divorced and she lives with her mom
Her dad’s an asshole but Steph thinks he’s the bomb.
Steph has to be the babysitter of her family
As she takes the blame for everything unhappy.
She dreams of tomorrow and future days
One day she’ll be free from her mom’s evil ways.
But until those days, she’s stuck in hell
She has no one to turn to, no one to tell.
Then Steph goes to school, leaving her troubles behind
She thinks her pain will stay at home or just lost in her mind.
She goes to school with pain in her heart
She’s so strong, and yet, so ready to break a part.
Her peers all around her, with their nose in the air
Are too busy to look down themselves and realize she’s there.
Steph has to be strong, and hold back her tears
As she tries to prove herself to her parents and peers.
She walks through the hallway, face down
There’s never a smile on this girl, only a frown.
She gets ignored, neglected, abused and harassed.
This is how her life is, and how her days pass.
It’s hard to say where she will be in two years.
This girl has so much anger inside along with many fears.
She often wonders why she can’t be loved
Everywhere she goes she is pushed and shoved.
Tears stream down her face from her eyes
You don’t think she hurts? Well her heart cries!
Steph looks in the mirror and sees an ugly face
She wants to be beautiful but can’t win the race.
When will she learn she has already won?
She is beautiful inside so her work is forever done.
Sometimes she just wants to end her life, and die right there
She wants people to wake up! And start to care.
I wish I could dry the tears from her eyes
I wish I could tell her it’s okay, everyone cries.
But in my mind I see two girls
The best of friends but in different worlds.
I’ll never really know all her problems and pain
Just spending one night at her house makes me insane.
Steph has a good head on her and she’s strong
She’s going down different paths to see where she belongs.
I cannot promise our little Deffy will be safe
She has a lot of choices and many decisions to make.
I wish I could say, I will be by her side
I wish I could promise she wont run and hide.
All I know, is she’s in God’s hands
And will forever be taken care of with his commands.
Steph finds a new hope in all of her days
She knows how to deal with the dirty games her mom plays.
I watch her struggle now, but oh one day you’ll see!
Deff will run! She will dance! She will be free!
So I hope this poem has changed your view
Maybe you’ll see her now, and won’t make her move.
You barely know, what she goes through day and night
You know little about her strength and her ongoing fight.
But at least you’re aware, and maybe concerned
This is a lesson from God that we all have just learned.
