I bump into you as I slip out of the room
You notice my downcast eyes
“What’s wrong?” you ask
“Nothing”

I flinch as my arm brushes against the wall
You notice the dark abrasions on my skin
“What happened?” you ask
“Nothing”

I wipe my wet cheeks with a gashed hand
You notice the hurt behind my fake smile
“What’s the matter?” you ask
“Nothing”

I hurry from his car as he whispers to me, “I love you”
You notice the fear in my face as I look away
“What’s going on?” you ask
“Nothing”

I lie still, sprawled on the ground
You notice my pool of blood as he runs from the scene
“Why did this happen?” you ask
Nothing
