I keep forgetting to forget you
letting all memories fade to blue
I post sticky notes everywhere
that say your heart doesn't live here
I release all thoughts of what had been
starting each day trying to forget again
painfully realizing there's no we or us
no feelings of love to confuse with lust
unwilling to accept what is true
pleading ignorant to it just won't do
I'm not yours and you are not mine
we are now strangers erased by time
you of course will just move on
I'll regret having stayed so long
but on a memo drafted to myself
a reminder to take me off the shelf
the note attached with my regrets
simply states "please remember to forget"
