In The Trench

The trench is dirty and wet,
Soldiers scream in pain and fear,
There are many enemies we have not met,
No mans' land looks to be clear,
My friend is lying out there,
I would be shot down before reaching him,
None of this seems to be fair,
As pain travels from limb to limb,
I miss the comforts i used to know,
The restful nights of sleep,
Here, all seems so slow,
During the night,
I only hear the soldiers weep,
The battles are the worst of it all,
Death, Dying, and Blood,
Too many men have yet to fall,
The sky is but a grey flood,
From the guns we are firing,
At fellow humans, at living things,
The boys back home should not be admiring,
Death is the only thing all soldiers bring,
I was forced into this,
I am now forced to kill,
This is far from bliss,
And with my next shot, another coffin I do fill,
The trench is dirty and wet,
Soldiers scream in pain and fear....
