The Negotiation

Lets negotiate love
like we do a salary
can you contemplate
what my worth is to you hourly
what is the value of my love
and devotion
is it worth your heart like a well
earned promotion
is the place in your bed just a token
and a life long union never to be spoken
lets forecast where we go from here
calculate the emotional investment per year
a guarantee is what I want from you
honesty and trust can I ask that too
please realize all that I bring to the table
match my commitment if you think
you are able
does my performance not satisfy
my personality not personify
my loyalty not exemplify
the kind of woman to be by your side
in silence we sit across from each other
our poker faces staring down one another
your eyes now divert from mine
negotiations are at the end of the line
you slide me over a piece of paper
a steady hand without a waiver
the final offer signed in ink
you'll excuse me, while I take time to think
