Now My Only Ex

God saw you tired
In your days of misery,

He put his arms around you
And took you away from me.

I watched you suffer,
As your life slowly went away,

Although I loved you dearly
I knew you couldn’t stay.

Life was hard for you,
It’s never what anyone expects,

You were my only friend,
Now you’re my only ex.

I sat by your bedside,
Trying hard not to cry,

Watching you with teary eyes,
Not ready to say goodbye

The hills were hard to climb.
And your road was getting rough.

God closed your weary eyes
And whispered "You’ve had enough."

Your golden heart stopped beating,
As you were put to rest.

You were my only companion,
Now you’re my only ex.
