MY Roots I Can't Deny

Mexican American Is what I am
Yes I add to the Chicano Hype
Proud Of my heritage, proud of my culture
Proud to be a stereotype
Our land invaded and destroyed
Captured, no where to escape
Religion forced upon my people
Children born of rapes
Not here because I crossed a border
Or jumped a Whiteman's line
Here because my Governments corrupt
Here to make my last name shine
I try so hard to be accepted
a successful working woman.
To be part of the working economy
To just be plain American
You see me as an immigrant
we'll never be eye to eye
Mexican American is what I am
My roots I cant deny.
