Despair

My eyes are sore,
I haven’t been sleeping too well.
I am worried about the path
I have chosen,
worried that it will lead me
the wrong way.
I listen to my watch ticking.
It soothes my mind.
I listen to the washing machine.
It pinpoints the realities of life.
Outside, the street is silent.
It worries me.
I feel abandoned.
I find the tranquillity hard to bear,
feel that I could lose myself
this night to despair.
The slow ticking
seems to soothe my mind.
The need to explain
gradually disappears,
maybe I have finally
Conceded,
conceded defeat.
