Before the Final Beat

In a tiny, rusty old cage I saw a kitty,
She was locked up outside, oh what a pity.
Almost 100 degrees out, the sun beating down hard,
Sitting on burning hot metal, she was locked in and barred.
Dieing of thirst, she had no water or food, she's hungry and weak,
Few months old she should be playing, and around she should sneak.
Instead she lies there starving, scared, and worn out from the heat,
Soon it sadly seams her heart will give her last and final beat.
Her careless owners don't care this beautiful creature will soon die,
Other helpless puppies, kitties, and rabbits also lay nearby.
I slowly drove by, then stopped, I couldn't stand this anymore,
I went to pick up the cage, too hot to touch! But nevermore!
I picked her up gently, she was scared to death, but to weak to care,
I told her everything would be okay, that this life wasn't fair.
We went to my house, and I quickly made a call,
The police went to her house and took them all.
I ran to the store as fast as I could,
She waited at air-conditioned and I think she understood.
I came home with cans and cans and bags upon bags of her food,
I bought lots of kitty stuff and toys I did include.
This house is now her home to stay,
She can go in our backyard to play.
But when it is time and can always come in,
To play in the cool home with her toys again.
She always has food out, I was give her a treat,
Now that I am with her and she’s with me our lives are complete.
If you're going to have a pet, treat them right,
If they get attention, love, and care you and you pet will lovingly unite.
