in her arms, in her heart
you saw a girl who came apart
her lips; blood red, her face; pale
inside, you knew she was so very frail

this girl, you say, was once a child
who saw, was seen, but not forgotten,
and in her heart, it was sad but true,
was laid remnants of what she had gotten.
and as much as you'd like to pretend
it was awfully like kissing the end

her sweet "I love you" was always innocent
even with her kiss you knew what she meant
even though, without design
you felt that everything wasn't fine

this girl, you say, was once a child
who saw, was seen, but not forgotten,
and in her heart, it was sad but true,
was laid remnants of what she had gotten.
and as much as you'd like to pretend
it was awfully like kissing the end
