We sat upon soft memories
Simmering like the water
Upon the parade
Of your love

We stared,
Observed
The trail of ants
Together as one
Disbanding discarded fruits

Wild purple flowers
Reminded me of purple hearts
And the sorrow of war

The still waters of the lake
Suggested the serenity,
The peace
We would always seek
But never achieve

A butterfly,
Yellow,
Delicate
With fewer days to live
Thrashed into view,
Settled
Then continued its chores

A gentle wind
Tickled the trees
And their soft murmur
Suggested laughter

The sun smiled
Like Childs play
Expressed its beauty
Displayed its strengths
And I was sure
That you were going
To whisper
‘I love you’
Till a serpent
Shattered
This perfect
Tranquillity

As you reached
For your clothes
You said it was beautiful
I buttoned my shirt
And wondered
Who else
Was watching
