Pay Your Dues

I did my part
Why can’t you do yours?
Loving and pleasing you
Has become a hectic chore.
I keep a calm voice
And do my best to be there.
But screaming in my face
Doesn’t mean you’re doing your share.
I sit at home and wait for you
To call and say good night.
But I don’t hear from you at all
So I assume next conversation we’ll fight.
I will not hold my feelings in
And I will not hide my thoughts.
Cuz I know you deserve the best of me
So I’m giving you all I’ve got.
But first you must help yourself
And respect me for what I give.
Know that without you in my life
There would be no reason to live.
But I cannot stay with someone
Who continues to put me in the red.
For I want to be with someone
Who understands what has been said.
I know you’ve succeeded before
So why can’t you do it now?
Are you going thru a hard time?
You need to explain to me how…
How I can help you
And bring out the best in you.
I know you say you don’t want help
But sometimes people DO.
I love you more than anything
And you’re something I don’t wanna lose.
So hurry up and correct yourself.
Start to pay your dues.
