she stood up in her crib
oblivious to what was happening
in the other room
until her bleeding mother ran in
and slammed the door behind her
a loud bang
then her beloved matriarch
fell to the velvet soft carpet
knocking her crib over
in the process
she crawled to her
in hopes she would be comforted
but instead
her mother stayed there immobilized
cadaverously pale
except for her ensanguined sweater
she wore that night
that her husband shot her
through the door
of thier baby girl Anna's bedroom
damaging Anna's spirits; permanetly
