The birthday cake is gone
not a crumb left.
The icing is still left on the plate,
dry and crusty.
The still wrapped gifts have been strewn
all over the room.
One has landed
near the empty vodka glass.
14 candles have been left
on floors and chairs and plates.
The ice cream has melted
while the mother has drunk
and drunk and drunk...
