Little girl watches from the stairs
Far too small to understand
What she witnesses is torment
Her mother receives each night
No one deserves such agony
Little girl watches without moving
She doesn’t want it too
Can’t escape the assault
When she gets old enough
Something can be done
Until then she sit and stares
Little girl watches without saying
Even a word would make him notice
He’ll do it to her too
Abuse her like her mother
Without any help in the world
Little girl watches without helping
Sees her mother cry every night
Until her father walks out and it’s all over
From the top of the stairs
What she perceives is what she lives
