I Want To Be Like You

let the morning scream through the glass panes on the wall
until my eyelids no longer veil my ragged pupils
stare at my ceiling
and think
wow
i want to be like you

maybe some day i'll have the privilege of being
the intangible structure that defines what you are
drop to my knees
and pray
please
i want to be like you

captivated by your stunning grace
tied down with your hands’ ropes
taunted tenderly by your face
keep locked away forever, i can only hope

i am yours, i will conform
liquefy me and let me set
mold me with your fingers, warm
change me now before i become permanent

trace in my melted pastels what you want me to be
make a vague outline of what imperfections must be redrawn
use a chalkboard
begin to
sketch
i want to be like you

tie my frayed ends like a bond between teacher and student
teach me everything that i could ever hope to hold
enlighten me
i will
learn
i want to be like you
