We hold on to our ideals
while our own people
suffer
and hunger
and crumble
and struggle
and plunder
surrender
to consequence
and circumstance
statistics
their environment
where they live
Being homeless and family-less and jobless and penny-less
And they're less
than a person, you say
Cause they ask you for change
Get a job! you preach
Cause they live on the streets
have nothing to eat
nowhere to sleep
only sorrow to teach
Do we help their defeat
when we turn them away
enable their shame
ignore their pain
Or should we embrace their claim
That this world is
cruel and cold
haplessly sold
On the idea that
material pleasures
selfish gestures
monetary treasures
ex-treme measures
Is the base of our efforts

To live here

These things may help you
cheat on your wife
forget your strife
submerse you in a beautiful life
Of shiny things
and fine things
and fast things
and super-star wet dreams
and you can go "bling bling"
But there's still a world
of streets
and creeps
and hos
and slaves
and drugs
and fighting
and shooting
and killing
We're losing ones we love
It's not like we're devoid of love
or giving hugs
or encouraging freinds
to carry on

And we sift through
and sit on all this shit
not knowing what our purpose is
Ignoring
Labeling
Confusing it
for the demographic pits

And we sift through
and sit on all this shit
Pushing it aside
Refusing ownership
We think we help cause
we go on blind
Go on without crime
Hold on to our dimes
Not realizing ...
it affects us ALL within time
