My Guiding Star

My guiding star,
Outshines the limits,
Of all affection, love and light.
Dependant upon this tiny glow,
Until one day the gentle shimmer,
Transformed to a blinding flash.

Too trusting of this strange, yet friendly glimmer,
Too close my hand ventured one solitary day,
Knocked back by a vicious fist of fire,
My hand shall be frozen forever more,
For a scar my little sparkle of hope has left,
Straight through the core of my heart.

As I look up to my guiding star,
My eyes burnt out by a sudden flare,
The colours I see fade from my life,
Leaving only black and white.

And as I close my eyes at night,
My smile it soars, up to my star,
Searching in vain for the light,
But my guiding star sends nothing back,
But the smouldering remains,
Of a hollow smile,
Drifting slowly down,
To my colourless world.
