He's single, she's gone--she died last year,
He tries so hard to hide his fears.
He constantly thinks all day long,
How to raise his girl--what's right, what's wrong.
He longs to be the best mother and father,
But before her death, he didn't even bother.
He's so unsure of how to be a dad,
Her death has left him unsure and sad.
Scary thoughts keep popping into his head,
How will his girl turn out, with her mother dead.
She tries to reassure him, when she gets to an older age,
She simply explains this is a war they both can wage.
He's confused on what he should do,
About being a father- he has no clue.
She tries to comfort him, but it isn't easy,
The words she thinks sound so cheesy.
She's fourteen now, her mom passed when she was nine,
She says to him she's growing up fine.
Yet, he still seems extremely unsure,
Should she really be dressing so mature?
Questions like these always boggle his mind,
He is so stressed, but still tries to be kind.
But it's getting harder each and every day,
She doesn't know why he's acting this way.
He's getting rough and harder on her,
When did this horrible transition occur?
When she comes home from school with a bad grade,
Things aren't pleasant, she is constantly afraid.
Her sweet loving dad, has completely changed,
Why is he acting completely deranged.
It gets worse every month and year,
At her own home, she lives in constant fear.
She is too scared to speak a word,
Her thoughts keep getting blurred.
She asks a friend; Is this right what he is doing?
She says to tell someone, she keeps pursuing.
She tells a teacher she trusts, a week after,
He stops the abuse...the house is filled with laughter.
He says he's sorry for what he's done,
He claims he loves her...and calls her hun.
Two weeks later he promises he'll stop,
But he was angry for her telling the wife of a cop.
She thinks to herself, Will it get better? She doesn't know,
She tries to put the abuse past her...though it was just three minutes ago.
**I'm not sure if this poem gets confusing towards the end...I meant it
to be that he says he will stop, but then two weeks later he abuses her
again...like in the last line --though it was just three minutes ago-- I
hope it wasn't confusing...if you have any questions, feel free to
ask...or any suggestions would be appreciated too**
