Your Ex-Girlfriend

You had this distant look in your eyes
As you constantly talked about her
I had thought it was just a phase
But to you I was only a blur
When we had conversations
You were never looking at me
Though that’s how it seemed
The one on your mind was she
Beating yourself up inside
For breaking up with her a week ago
I should have known the signs
But truth is, I didn’t want to know
We once fell asleep in front of my TV
I woke up to you whispering her name
Tears fell as I stared into the darkness of night
I felt helpless, I felt ashamed
I thought you had the courtesy to change
To move on with me by your side
But it’s always been your ex-girlfriend
You want her there if you ever died
You then told me sorry the very next day
Telling me you need time alone
My lips parted but no words
I’m weaken by your apologetic tone
Did you really care enough to apologize
Or was she again in your mind
When she doesn’t give you another chance
Am I going to be the one you find
Am I just the third wheel
For all of your “just in cases”
Well I’m not going to wait for you
I need my own time to meet new faces
I had this distant look in my eyes
As you opened the door and walked away
Will you ever think about me as much as
You have thought about her each day
