I lay across my bed
Unable to sleep, yet not totally awake
For a short passage in the night
I am that same child I once was
In a small body
On a small bed
In a small room
Unsure of what the next day may bring
Lost in the wonder of the world
Abstract thoughts with shallow shadows
Of structure pass through…evading me
I just lay
Without thought
Without feeling
Awakened by the fantasy of a cotton candy love
Fresh and sweet, untainted by demand
For a second I dream the way I did then
But reality becomes suddenly apparent and I’m not
That same child…escaping me
In a larger body
On a larger bed
In a larger room
Now drenched in the cloak of course humanity
I just lay
Without thought
Without feeling
I just lay
