the assignment was to write a poem
inspired by a picture
i was gonna write a lovely poem about picture number one
it looked to me like indians
returning to their home
only to find barren land and brown rock
where once their village stood
i changed my mind and tried to write
about picture number two
two men and a horse escaping
from dull hard work to bright freedom
again i changed my topic
to picture number three
an adult and a child returning home
after a long hard day in the field
unsatisfied with my work once more
i switched to picture number four
a famous picture from the great depression
a man and his daughter in front of their farm
i found this picture far too dull
so i changed to number five
a colorful alternative
to be taken many ways
some saw it as a sailor catching fish out in the sea
but it was taken in a different way by me
i saw something mythical, maybe even made up
possibly a representation of the underworld
I DON'T KNOW!
its hard to write a poem of something you dont understand
yet again unsatisfied with my work
i tried something new
i combined the pieces
to make one piece
a poem
my poem


this poem...well...it explains itself...it was hard to write, but was one of
my favorites freshman year...
