Battle Lines

On the battle lines
A bullet wises by my head
Wounded all around
My finger pulls the trigger yet again
Another man falls
They call me a hero
For saving their country
But no hero am I
Another man lies on the field
Treated by a young girl
I shoot her too; sadly it’s my duty

Crouching on the battle lines
Treating a man with a leg wound
A bullet wises by my head
I pay no heed
To the sound or the wounded all around
Another trigger is pulled
Another man falls
They gave my family a purple heart for me
But I never deserved it
I died by a man
Who had a sad duty to shoot all
Because I never saved a life
Only tried
I died and everyone is dead
Like a girl with thoughts of suicide
