When All Hope Is Gone

We always let go too late
Wait too long
Holding on to hope
As we watch the light dim
And then burn out
Darkness obscures the illusions
That gave you permission
To be optimistic
That allowed you to shroud
Yourself in denial
That allowed tears
To precariously linger
On the edge of your eyelids
Always threatening to fall
But never do
Yet through them you always
Saw a ray of light
With hope tightly clinched
Within you fist
You gasp for one last breath
Begging
negoitiating the inevitable
Reaching out
Waiting for clemency
All it took was a word
To be saved
As you watch everything
You love and want
Fall away
Listen to your heart halt
Feel the air become stagnant
Don’t fight it
This is how it feels
When all hope is gone
And Finally
You can stop breathing
And take in air
Your heart can stop pounding
And begin to beat
You can die in order to live
