JUST A FRIEND

I can’t move on the way you do,
You’ve already found someone new.
You left me here and went away,
Left me here alone to stay. And,
I cannot move, I can’t let go,
Unsure of what I think I know.
I’m dazed, confused, I’m in a maze,
Mixed up in glory; your timeless praise.
I lost you once, but not again,
Because you’ll just remain a friend.
A friend, that’s all, and what I fear,
Which is why I cringe when you get near.
And I want nothing more to let you go,
To kill the pain that hurts me so.
For hanging on to bitter defeat,
Is nothing more than a bitter sweet.
And this new friend I’ve gained,
To a love I’ve lost,
Has come at such a pricey cost.
But I’d do it again, right from the start,
So I could feel again how you stole my heart,
Life isn’t so generous no sway no bend,
So you’ll have to for now, remain just a friend.
