The Storm

The thunder rumbles inside me
And cool air drifts in from the window beside me
I glimpse the lightning’s flash from behind me
I’m waiting for the rain
There’s a long pause as the weather grows silent
I wonder if it’s the calm before the storm
I heard there may be hail I wonder if it will come
But mostly I ‘m still waiting for the rain
The thunder returns much angrier
And the wind becomes a blowing rage
Lightning flashes irrationally down to the ground
And it begins to pour all around me
For hours into days
And days into weeks
Then weeks into months
And months into years
But I’m still waiting for the rain
Swallowed up in my tears
And drowning in the endless rain
That never comes
