A little girl of about nine
Stands outside of a big grocery mart
And her hand, lies a little dog
Stitched and reddish brown
She called him Richard
For he was brave
Her best friend, till the end
Her mother takes her by her hand
And into the store they go
Her mother and grandmother
Went to shop
Leaving her and her brother and sister
Behind to explore
Grabbing Richard to her chest
She looks around amazed
Ahead they see this toy shelf
Filled with wonderful toys
When her mother called her back to them
They started to go
The little girl of about nine
Looked down to kiss her friend
She saw him gone
And she screamed
Wheres Richard, oh we have to find him
They let her look
But still no find
So they walk away
Tears on her face
A sudden movement came about
She suddenly cried
I know where he is
Please let me go back please
But her grandmother insisted
They leave right away
So being broken inside
This child of nine
After leaving her best friend behind
