the classic trio
of words

The letter "I"
standing so patiently
so deceivingly alone.

Chasing close behind is the word "Love".
it lingers
it teases
and you know what's coming next

the "you".
the one word
so trivial otherwise
but this time
it completes the phrase
that brings dizzying pleasure
of sentiment
of glee
of selfish joy
that you hoard to yourself
clutching the string of words to your soul
squeezing them to your breast
never to let them go

and during the dark, sleepless nights
of uncertainty
of sadness
of regret
you draw those words away
from their nook in your heart
and you inspect them
you turn them over
you close your eyes
and let yourself hear him say it again...

the letter "I"
chased by the word "love"
and completed with the "you".
