A friend you were
A friend I'd lost
The price to pay
A damning cost
You gave your life
To sex and drugs
And on the day
Your grave we dug
I cried the tears
You always fought to stop
Fell to my knees
with everyone gone
My hands on the dirt
A far streetlight on
I prayed to my lord
And tried to repair
the hearts you had torn
A deep and dark despair
I re-read the letter
You had written to me
Left it on my window
For only I to see
"Dear sweet girl of mine
Dont rush life girl
Take your sweet time
Always ask for help
Never give up
On anything you do
Always remember
How much I love you
This wasn't to hurt you
But to prevent you more grief
If I was more careful
Life wouldn't have been so brief
So hold fast to all of it
And never forget
That in the real world
There's no safety net."
I crumbled the paper
Buried it deep in this grave
I never talked to anyone above
Until they had taken someone I loved
So the moral to this tragedy
One that still holds true
You'll never understand true pain
Until Love is taken away from you.
