Darkness

The darkness devours,
leaving nothing left.
It's hunger intensifies
with each passing feeding.
It's hunger never diminishes.
It will leave nothing,
not even a crumb
for a mouse to nibble on.
It's a petrifying thought
to know that I will be it's next meal.
My whole being taken over
by this fiendish friend.
Not my enemy,
because I embrace it.
My only friend, only a cruel irony.
I shall be at the mercies of my only friend.
A fate not fit for trust.
It is sad, but a comforting relief to get away
from this world of misery and endless torment.
A world that everyone dies and everyone lives in fear.
