An Only Child

i'm the only child in my family
it can be nice, it can also be bad
you probably think it's great, but I don't
not always
It's nice to be home alone,
but its also quite lonely.
I wasn't home alone all day today
but I didn't even leave.
I love my mom but she can get on my nerves
this is nothing new in a teenager's world
i'm not anti-social, I just don't talk much, i'm shy
but I don't have to talk when i'm all alone
i've heard the saying "the grass is always greener on the other
side."
and its true.
people say i'm lucky, but I think you are.
you have people your own age around, I don't.
I don't even have cousins my own age!
there's only three and they're married with their own kids
at holidays i'm the only kid there
i'm used to hanging out with my aunts and uncles
its always really nice to talk to others my own age
this may be why people think I act so serious,
but its because I'M SURROUNDED BY ADULTS!
I like to act silly but I never get the chance
my friends are close to me, but yet so distant
we don't do much and I really don't know why
maybe its because of all the stuff I just described.
