The little Bird

I saw a bird
As I walked home
Close to midnight

I would have been lonely,
If not for that bird
Who kept me company

He asked me how my life was
I told him sad and blue
He wanted to help and asked what he could do

I told the little bird
To fly to his nest and be happy
But the bird refused and told me it was his job

I asked him what he meant
And he responded “you’ll see”
So I told this bird what it was like to be me

I told him about my problems
And my inner most thoughts
I knew I could trust him and he’d never tell

This bird was clever
Always saying the right thing
Making me trust him more, making my heart sing

Near the end of my walk
I asked the bird his name
He said to me “you know it already”

“I do?” I asked as I turned away
When I turned back around, my best friend was standing there
Somehow, I knew it was him all along
