The Day the World Cried

Warm afternoon
Sitting in the living room
Listening to music by someone before my time
Bored so I put on the tele
Turn on the news
The weather
Flips by
Then the sports scores
Then a rude interruption
Of the anchorman’s joke
“ We have a breaking story”, says the man
“ There has been a terrible accident in Paris.
A car crashed into a cement under pass killing all inside.”
“How is this breaking news?”, I thought.
Stuff like this happens all the time
“ Two men and a female. The woman”, he sobbed, “is Di.”
I sit hearing the crying of a grown woman
Happens to be my aunt
“ She died when she reached the hospital.”
Said the reporter
I sit staring
She is dead
This is the day the world cried
